Solutions for Change provides access to the skills, knowledge, and resources homeless families need to regain their physical, emotional, and economic health and permanently solve their homelessness. The adults—once securely housed and their children in school—participate in Solutions University, a 700-day program to identify and eradicate the core issues that caused each family to become homeless. Solutions coaches work with residents to create a program tailored to each person’s needs. Solutions University is a unique and highly successful effort that has garnered national attention and recognition. Since 1999, Solutions has guided more than 600 families and their 1200 children to a permanent solution to their homelessness, while saving taxpayers an estimated $32 million in public support costs. Solutions for Change is an expression of the community’s commitment to permanently solving family homeless, for the benefit of the adults, their children, and the community.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) is the largest and most effective youth development organization in North County whose mission is to inspire, develop and enrich young people of all backgrounds to reach their fullest potential as self-confident, productive, responsible, caring members of society. For over 60 years, the development and implementation of programs that address enriching academic and educational opportunities combined with developing strong character values in the youth we serve is critical to providing the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and future leaders. We are unique in offering daily programs for youth at little or no cost, 78% of our membership comes from low-income households. The annual membership fee is $55 per fiscal year, but scholarships are available for families who demonstrate financial or special needs. BGCO gives youth an advantage they would not otherwise find, in programs that target education, character development, and health, enabling youth to realize greater academic and social success, thus decreasing dropout rates, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, and gang and criminal activity. We have implemented an organizational Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) program designed to develop a greater interest and appreciation for the world of STEAM and its relation to real world applications and careers. The organization has embraced project-based learning (PBL) and uses this approach in all STEAM activities to engage youth during non-school hours including after-school, summer, winter, spring break, and president’s week camps. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside serves over 1,400 youth daily, ages 5-18 throughout Oceanside and Vista, with 6 on-site school locations in Oceanside, 5 on-site school locations in Vista and our main Townsite Branch which operates year round!

Founded in 2003, Operation HOPE-North County (OHNC) aims to offer a safe, caring, and supportive environment to families with children and single women experiencing homelessness as they rebuild their lives and reclaim independence. Rising housing costs and inflation continue to have a significant impact on low-income families and those on the verge of homelessness, an issue that is continuing to grow in our region. Last fiscal year OHNC provided shelter to 188 individuals and 62% of that population were children. Nearly 20% of the population served last year at the shelter were Oceanside residents.
In response to the many needs in the community, OHNC established aftercare services to assist shelter graduates and the community at-large. Their Pantry of HOPE program was created for graduates to ensure the sustainability of housing security to avoid re-entry into homelessness by allowing them to come on a weekly basis to access fresh produce, proteins, dry goods, dairy, toiletries, hygiene products, and infant and toddler related supplies as well as case management and resources. This program has grown by nearly 400% since opening. OHNC also operates the New Beginnings Boutique. This unique space allows for families in the shelter, graduate families, and community members to have access to clothing and household items. The boutique creates a space for our clients to “shop” with dignity at no charge to clients.
Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is dedicated to providing the highest quality supportive services, counseling, shelter and education to women, children and men in North San Diego County involved in or threatened by domestic violence or sexual assault. Women’s Resource Center (WRC) programs assist clients in healing so that they can: BUILD: their dignity, self esteem and confidence. LEARN: that what has happened is not their fault. KNOW: that they and their children have a safe haven. FEEL RELIEF: from the fear of physical, verbal and emotional abuse. FIND OUT: that someone understands their problems and that there are solutions. HOPE: by learning that they can make different, better choices in the future.
Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) serves America's veterans throughout San Diego County in overcoming homelessness and related challenges.
"The YMCA of San Diego County is dedicated to improving the quality of human life and to helping all people realize their fullest potential as children of God through the development of the spirit, mind and body."
AREAS OF FOCUS
We focus our work in three key areas, because nurturing the potential of kids, helping people live healthier and supporting our neighbors are fundamental to strengthening communities.
Youth Development
With the Y’s help, kids in neighborhoods across San Diego County are more interested in learning and making smarter life choices. At the Y, kids learn their ABCs, learn to share, learn about sportsmanship, build leadership skills and most importantly, learn how to be themselves. That makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.
Healthy Living
Because the Y is for everyone, we bring together children, adults and families of all abilities like no other organization can. As a result, hundreds of thousands in San Diego County are receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.
Social Responsibility
Thanks to the generosity of volunteers and public and private donors who give to the Y, our community is stronger. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
