Update on San Diego Forward: The 2019 – 2050 Regional Plan In June, SANDAG wrapped up a robust public outreach program during which they gathered input regarding the San Diego Forward: The 2019 – 2050 Regional Plan, beginning with key themes and issues that should be addressed in the plan and before the transportation network scenarios and projects are developed. SANDAG is currently in the process of developing the draft transportation network scenarios, and in the meantime, have identified key network scenario concepts. Overall, we have heard that members of the public were excited to be engaged early in the process this year and appreciated the proactive approach, as well as the many different ways to provide input, whether in person or online. Given this positive feedback, SANDAG is preparing to begin the next round of outreach on the network scenario concepts this fall. To prepare for the next round and ongoing development, a series of informational videos have been created on the network scenario development process, the types of projects, programs and services, and technologies that could be included in the 2019 Regional Plan. These videos provide a comprehensive understanding of the components that could be included in the draft transportation network scenarios and were developed with the goal of helping the public understand how to review and differentiate the network scenarios based on their key priorities. The videos include: A network scenario is a package of projects and programs that consider regional needs and impacts of transit, emerging technologies and services, the environment, public health, and the economy. There are three types of projects in the Regional Plan – Transit, Active Transportation, and Roads and Highways. A variety of programs and services help to maximize the effectiveness of the transportation system: specialized transportation for seniors and persons with disabilities, Transportation Demand Management, Transportation System Management, and other tools for local implementation. Technology will help us create an intelligent transportation system and policies that operate the network more efficiently. There are many technology trends that are impacting the future of transportation.
