MiraCosta College Offers Community Education Enrichment Courses in Hobbies and Skills MiraCosta College Community Education is offering the following hobbies and skills, not-for-credit, courses this fall: NEW Italian for Travelers. Now is the best time and place to learn Italian. Your instructor was born, raised and educated in Italy and she recently spent a summer there. This six-week course will empower you with the fundamentals to communicate well in Italian. The basic language skills that you will learn during this course will help you build your vocabulary and enjoy the Italian language. Fee: $120. Supplies: Please bring notebook with pen or pencil. Location: Oceanside Campus, Room 3606. Time: 6 Tuesdays, 9/11–10/16, 6:30–8:30 PM. NEW Planting Your Fall Vegetable Garden. Summer's over, now what to grow? Which types of vegetables like to grow in colder fall and winter conditions? Together we'll look at various plant families, such as the brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and kale), alliums (chives, onions, leeks) and various root crops (beets, carrots and potatoes). Learn how to grow these crops and more! Fee: $50. Early Bird Special: $45. (Register BEFORE 9/7 for this rate.) Supplies: A $7 materials fee will be collected in class for handouts and course materials. Location: Technology Career Institute, Room 100. Time: 1 Thursday, 9/13, 6:30–8:30 PM. NEW Wine Tasting Old World vs. New World. A Certified Sommelier shows you differences between New and Old World wines. In this entertaining and engaging class, learn to accurately identify a wine based on its sight, smell and palate characteristics using a deductive approach. Taste varietals from around the world, such as Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc—six wines per session! Note: Please refrain from wearing strong fragrances or colognes, as they will interfere with your learning experience. Must be 21 or older to register. Fee: $90. Supplies: A $60 materials fee will be collected in class. Please bring three wine glasses, pen and paper to each class. Location: San Elijo Campus, Room 406.
