MiraCosta College Offers Community Education Enrichment Courses in Career and Work Skills MiraCosta College Community Education is offering the following career and work skills, not-for-credit, courses this fall: Creating a Website or Blog with WordPress. Students learn the basic principles of creating a website with WordPress.com and WordPress.org. WordPress.com will be used in class because it’s free and easy to set up. No special software is necessary and WordPress.com can run on a PC or Mac. WordPress is user friendly, provides good search engine optimization and has lots of free online support. In addition, it’s easy to update your content online and set up your site with a professional theme. Come see why there are over 56 million WordPress sites in the world. Fee: $89. Early Bird Special $79. (Register BEFORE 9/8 for this rate.) Supplies: Students should come to class with an idea of what their website should look like and what the content will contain. Students may bring digital pictures to upload. Bring sack lunch or snacks. Location: San Elijo Campus, Room 107. Time: 2 Saturdays, 9/15–9/22, 10 AM–1 PM. Human Resources Certificate Program—3 Fridays! Our HR Certificate Program is appropriate for individuals who are not yet HR professionals and for HR veterans who wish to update their skills. This program was developed to enable participants to complete their studies in just three days. This program has been approved for 23 general recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPRH recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). All content is designed to address core HR competencies: History and role of human resources in today’s workplace; Creating and administering an effective HR department; Compensation, benefits and retirement programs; Staffing (recruiting and retention) strategies; Employment law and compliance hot topics; Effective employee relations and termination. Fee: $98/class or $530 for all six sessions. Location: Technology Career Institute. Time: 3 Fridays, 9/14–9/28, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM and 1:30–5:30 PM. NEW—Child Visitation Monitor. Are you looking for a career opportunity in which you can work within the community, gain valuable experience and make a difference in the lives of children and families? Consider becoming a professional child visitation monitor; a position that is always in demand. Average pay for monitors is $30–$60 per hour, depending on the case. Sometimes, based on issues of protection and safety, a judge will order that a child only have contact with a parent when a neutral third person is present during the visit. The monitor's responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of the children involved. This comprehensive course satisfies the state’s 24-hour training requirement. You will learn California policies and procedures, as well as your role as a monitor. Upon completion, you will also receive a certificate of accomplishment and forms necessary to register with San Diego County Court. Note: Must be at least 21 years old and have a clean record. Participants will eventually get fingerprinted upon registering name with the superior court. Attend our FREE information session: 9/12 at 5:30 PM on the Oceanside Campus, Room 4529. Fee: $295.
