MiraCosta College Offers Community Education Enrichment Courses in Hobbies and Skills MiraCosta College Community Education is offering the following hobbies and skills, not-for-credit, courses this summer: Wilderness and Urban Survival Techniques. Would you survive? Learn how to survive should your city have a massive power outage or regional emergency. In a real-life urban or backcountry survival scenario, the "WURST” (Wilderness & Urban Survival Techniques) will provide you with the skills to survive. Students will learn planning, urban and wilderness survival techniques, as well as tips and tricks on collecting necessary resources and essential gear. WURST will also show you how to navigate cities in a disaster. Don’t be left unprepared! Fee: $79. Early Bird Special $69 (Register BEFORE 7/4 for this rate). We offer certification courses for workplace employees, healthcare providers, phlebotomy students, and the community each month. This is a great starter course if you have never danced or taken a dance class. When the music begins playing, you will be ready. Whether you have a wedding or anniversary coming up, are going on a cruise, or any other social function—this class will get you dancing. Fee: $60. Join Brazilian cook Djana Venolia as she brings her joyful Amazonian background approach to cooking healthy yet flavorful foods. Each day, you will learn different recipes. Day 1: Cheese bread and chicken pot pie. Day 2: Sweet and salty pizza party. Day 3: Crepes and brownies. Let's find a way to make it happen! Learn to maximize the space you have whether growing on a windowsill, a patio, or a small balcony, we can find a method that is right for you. We'll take a look at creative solutions including container gardening, growing vertically and even hydroponics. Fee: $50. Early Bird Special $45 (Register BEFORE 7/12 for this rate). This class will get you quickly “jammin’ da blues” as you learn the many techniques to make the harmonica cry, moan, and wail the blues! Through this fun, one-night workshop you will learn proper breathing techniques, blues harmonica rhythms, improvisational techniques and how to effectively solo and practice. Fee: $45. Supplies: A $15 material fee will be collected in class. Please bring your own C major diatonic harmonica, or you can purchase one in class for $13. Create a sense of place and habitat using California’s own heritage, which will ultimately benefit your purse, your home and the planet. We will focus on 20 native California plant species, their uses, care and maintenance without chemicals or additives. Students will design a landscape and supplemental irrigation system through lecture and hands-on design sessions. Fee: $60. Early Bird Special $55 (Register BEFORE 7/21 for this rate).
