I went here a few months ago to meet my brother and sister for some dinner action and this place certainly didn't disappoint! Becka our server was very knowledgeable on the menu and made a recommendation for the pork shank and boy was it tasty. With my sister running late Becka did get us started on a few appetizers and drinks to get us rolling. Becka was the most perfect server that we could ever ask for as her warm personality and service will keep me coming back for more! Thank you for the wonderful dining experience. Ted V.

I love the one in Oceanside. They have some good dinner items there.
We came here because it's located near all the breweries and a good brunch/lunch stop before drinking. Sunday brunch. Their Bloody Mary was delicious, they have a chicken option too. Opted for the regular one.
We ordered Mac and cheese, salmon Benedict and chicken and waffles. The Mac and cheese with big bacon bits was actually really good. The salmon Benedict was good too- the Hollandaise sauce had dill in it which gave a good dill kick to it. The chicken and waffles isn't your ordinary one. It's chicken and waffles covered in a delicious sausage gravy. So if you're looking for sweet it won't be it. The gravy was so good, so was the chicken but if you ate the whole thing you will probably have a food coma for the rest of the day. It was heavy. Share that one.
Sit on the patio if you can on a nice day. They have a covered patio and a non cover one. Both dog friendly!Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 14Oh no 0 - 6505452264Dec 13, 2018
Awesome! I've been to the Flying Pig in Oceanside and it never disappoints. Absolutely great food, interesting decor, awesome service and dank drinks. I would recommend this place to anyone even people with families members with plainer palates (I have a few in my family). They've got some damn good stuff here so check it out.

Great service

We saw pictures of the charcuterie board which we were craving and looking forward to, but it was no longer being offered and might come back in the summer. It changed the night drastically because we were planning on sharing the board and an entree.
We started with the loaded tater tots. The tots were super crispy and seasoned well but the cheese sauce wasn't cooked down enough so it tasted like flour.
Next came the entrees. My husband ordered the hanger steak which typically comes with mashed potatoes and a salad. He passed on the potatoes and just asked for the salad. It was $32 which is steep for hanger steak and what I'd expect to pay for a sirloin or filet. While it was very tasty, it was also very expensive for what you get.
I ordered the chicken sandwich which was topped with tomato, lettuce, fried onion strings, cheese and a spicy aioli. I tossed the bun aside and asked for salad instead of fries. It was good but not exceptional.
I don't think I'll be back until they can sync their online menu with what they're actually serving in house.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jul 24, 2018
They didn't pass with flying colors.
Flying Pig is a gastropub which my friends and I visited during our day trip to San Diego. They have a dog, and the patio seating here is dog-friendly, not to mention that this Vista location opens earlier than the Oceanside location to allow for Sunday brunch.
I would have hoped that they'd be more ready for service during that early opening though. It took over an hour for the seating, ordering, and cooking process to conclude in our food's arrival. We would accept some blame for the ordering taking a bit of time, but they had to have one person change their order on account of lack of ingredients, and they still took a long time to get the rest of the food ready.
My C.A.B. Burger ($15) was mostly enjoyable at least. The beef was juicy and came out cooked to medium-rare as requested. The brioche bun was soft. In terms of the rest of the flavors though, it didn't wow me. I didn't go for the egg add-on (+$1.50), but it still could've used more of a punch from the caramelized onions or more sweetness.
My side order of truffle fries (maybe usually a +$2 charge but not reflected on receipt) was more enjoyable. The fries are thin, almost shoestring, but still crispy and fluffy. The truffle oil wasn't heavy-handed and the parmesan also helped enhance the flavor. The truffle aioli was a bit forgettable though.
I also came here for the beer, and I enjoyed their selection. They have 18 beers on tap, most of which are from local breweries. I had the Chaotic Evil Pale Ale ($7, 16 oz) from BattleMage, another Vista business. The beer was served at an appropriately cold and fresh temperature, and it was an enjoyable west coast IPA with some citrus notes and another interesting character resembling certain ways of consuming a different psychoactive drug which has been legalized in California but not at the federal level.
Speed aside, service was pretty good. They served water to our party's dog, and a sampler of another beer (Treesbad, by Burgeon Beer Company of Carlsbad) to me while I waited for the food. They split the bill by items.
I won't rush back to Flying Pig for Sunday brunch. Maybe I would stop by if I'm doing a beer crawl in Vista or nearby Oceanside, but my time is typically limited on my excursions toward San Diego and I don't want to waste it waiting for food that's good but not remarkable or great for the price.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jun 9, 2018
I visited the Flying Pig on a Friday night with a good friend. We came for drinks and apps. I didn't have a reservation but it was never a problem during past visits however upon arrival, I waited at the front of the restaurant for someone to greet me. I stood there for about 10 minutes until finally a woman sitting outside talking on her cell phone asked if I'd been helped. It was a little busy; a few large parties appeared to be wrapping up and I'd even made eye contact and smiled with some of the servers. I thought they'd come over and help. Guess not...
My friend and I were sat down at a nice table outside. I love it outside! There are string lights, several fire places and blankets, and you can still hear the live music playing inside. We ordered a few glasses of wine and the truffle fries to share which were salty, garlicky deliciousness.
I do enjoy this place. They have a large selection of beer and wine. The food is good and the space is really charming. I hope that they get their act together in terms of service. They're friendly but slow. I'll give them another chance, most likely when it's not so busy.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 84129548Nov 20, 2018
I really enjoyed the vibe of this place, staff was great, really unique decorations, live band, and great cocktails!
I was here for a celebration with my boyfriend's family, we got here around 7:30ish and the place was still pretty busy.
We started with some cocktails at the bar and man did they have a selection.
I got what I believe was called the flying mojito and my boyfriend got a Moscow pig (hint: most of their cocktail names falls with the vibe and culture of the name of the restaurant) .
The mojito came with what seemed like pink lemonade, mint, and of course vodka. Which either way the drink was delicious !
We were seated in the covered inside area and of course with the way their decorations were , even the table sets were unique. Different chairs, different tables, different drink menus. It was very esthetic!
Now this is where I would say why I did not give a full 5 star:
They came out with 3 appetizers, a cheese & fruit platter, bread , and a fried type bread bites.
When it came to the actual food part, I ordered the Compart Burdoc Chops and my boyfriend ordered the Chef's Daily Steak Special, which would of been the New York Strip with a little fat or the Oceanside with no fat.
Originally he ordered the Oceanside steak, but after taking everyones orders and a few minutes later, the server comes back saying that the they are out of the Oceanside steak.. kind of upsetting and weird that they just would ran out, but also was the first time I have heard of that, so I'm not sure if that is common in some restaurants?
That was just the first part, but when it came to actually getting the food, my pork chops were pretty over cooked and as I was just trying my boyfriends steak, it was over cooked as well and simply just didn't want it even though I was looking forward to it.
I believe instead of mashed potatoes I might have gotten grits as well, which it was not too bad but not a fan of the texture as much. My boyfriend's aunt had the chorizo mussels that she shared with me, and with that combination of chorizo and seafood, it was surprisingly delicious and I sort of wished I got that instead.
Overall, I would come back here for another get together and drinks, and was pleased with the customer service and the atmosphere, but I may come back more skeptical on the food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 28, 2017
My daughter recognized this as a place I would like, right away. So when I was in town visiting, we had to try it. The parking lot was full but we found street side parking next to Sonic, across the street. My daughter had already secured a table for us, so there was no wait to be seated.
Our server was great at the beginning, but service fell off as the night went on.
My youngest daughter ordered the goat cheese ricotta at $17.50. I volleyed her choice with a preemptive selection: Waygu flatiron steak at $25.00. I had a feeling those gnocchi would be headed my way shortly, and picked something I knew she would be happy with in a trade.
1 glass of Sauvignon Blanc: $8.50.
Sure as snow in Montana, she took a bite of the pasta and passed it to me. I had one bite of the steak and it was a solid plate. The gnocchi were really wonderful and different. They were shaped in little squares and soaked up the finely tuned sauce. The arugula in the dish made it sing.
Everyone at the table enjoyed the truffle fries.
Here is where I have a major gripe with the experience: It took forever to get our bill. I don't know if our server was deliberately avoiding us for some unknown reason or he just forgot about us. I saw people eat and leave in the time we were waiting for our bill. Strike 2: he failed to mention that a 20% tip had been added to our bill, for a small table. I didn't realize that we ended up giving him a 40% tip until I got home and closely inspected the itemized receipt. I hope he uses it wisely, at least?Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Jul 4, 2017
I'm torn between a two and three star review, so three stars it is.
For starters, this was my second time visiting Flying Pig. The first time, I was with a friend and we met another friend there for drinks and a few appetizers. They had their liquor license about two weeks. Service was fine.
This time, my partner in crime and I plus another couple dined here for dinner.
We arrived at 7pm expecting a wait but we were quickly seated. As my partner in crime and I browsed the menu, Becca (our server) was quick to take our drink orders, recommend dishes and answer questions for us.
My partner in crime and I couldn't decide was to order and went back and forth, but eventually ended up with their two pasta dishes from their 'specials' menu. My friend and her husband decided on a steak dish and a burger.
My pasta dish (I'm drawing a blank on it but it had waygu beef in it) was better than my partner in crime pasta. His dish seemed undercooked, from the few bites I had.
My friend said the steak was amazing (I would hope so for that price!).
We opted to pass on dessert and more drinks, but ended up at another establishment for late night beers.
Becca was a pleasant server. The decor is lovely, open layout, good cross breeze from every angle, and a nice bar setup. Sadly, the food was average and overpriced.
I love supporting local businesses and maybe I'll return for drinks or appetizers, but I'll pass on having dinner here.
