Coastal is a charter school. I cannot say enough about this school! I'm grateful charter schools are an option. We homeschool and was not looking to do any form of public school, before we moved to Oceanside this school was recommended as a great tool to help in homeschooling.
So grateful for that recommendation. I started research while we were out of country and all the research was positive.
Moved here and signed the kids up for C-Track, that's the full homeschool at home for core curriculum and one-two days a week they go in person to experience class setting and extracurricular studies.
There's an ES (Education Specialist) who helps you stay on track and gives suggestions to help in struggle areas.
There's field trips that are optional and fun, often given at a discount because it's group rates.
There are some negative influences among classmates, nothing to the caliber of public school, about the same level as in other social groups. This is one of the tough parts of growing up, learning about good and bad behavior and how to make better decisions along the way. There will be families who allow things your family does not allow. Your family may allow things others do not. The teachers are so great at keeping you informed if anything is off in your child's behavior or conversation. Again, it's no where near the extremes that takes place in public schools. I went to public school and we know plenty of families currently in public school, the amount of dangers and inappropriate behavior that's permitted in public schools is sickening. Coastal has been a much safer, much more tamed extension to our schooling out children. There's just no comparison. Charter schools seem to be in a whole other league. I'm grateful Coastal is available for our children.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Best hybrid model in the United States. Our children attended k-6 at Coastal and we were so blessed to be able to experience school in this way. The teachers were exemplary and the admin was always helpful, responsive and went above and beyond.
A true gem of education. Thank you to everyone that makes Coastal/classical academy such a wonderful place!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - S D.San Diego, CA315386Feb 20, 2023

Teachers-if you are looking for a career, I would not suggest that you apply to this school or any schools in the Classical Academies. If admin does not like you they will put you on a "coaching plan" which results in you being fired a month later. No warning, no taking into consideration of how your teaching style benefits students. The bottom line is that you do not step out of line, otherwise admin will bring down the axe on you. Apply to a school district-more resources to help kids-more freedom to make educated decisions to help kids. This is a business run by adults who do what's best for business, not for kids.

We have absolutely loved having our kids at Coastal Academy. The students are well-adjusted, happy, and bright. The other parents are awesome. The teachers are caring and more than competent. The staff are responsive and warm. I have nothing but good feelings when I'm at Coastal, and my kids love it too! Thank you!

We have really enjoyed our experience with Coastal Academy this year. I am very pleased in how they have handled many obstacles this year. The communication from the school is wonderful. You can tell that every employee and teacher working here truly enjoys their job. I can finally send my child to school with relief knowing she's in great hands. Additionally, we have loved the parent involvement and being able to volunteer at events.

If you are looking for an alternative to traditional public school because of bullying, DO NOT enroll here.
My son was assaulted (and injured) by two students who used physical objects to attack him and the administration did nothing. Then it was followed by nearly 5 months of bullying and harassment from his assailants that was brought to the attention of those in charge. Each time we got lip service but no action. After a final meeting with the administration which was so ludicrous that it was obvious that the situation would never be resolved, I put my foot down and switched schools.
There are great teachers at Coastal, the idea behind Coastal is great, however the administration refuses to do its job which exasperates situations that could be easily mitigated by someone competent. They only had to keep his bullies away from him one hour per day per week (C track) and they failed.Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 1 - Mandy P.NC, NC16117Jun 21, 2019
My daughter has attended Coastal from Kindergarten through 2nd grade, and we love this school! We have been on A track, which is 3 days of homeschool and 2 days in a traditional classroom, with all the homeschool curriculum provided and coordinated with the teacher. It's the best of both worlds! I love that they also provide music, art and technology classes during the school day.
We have found the teachers and staff to be phenomenal, the parents to be engaged, and the students to be just a really great group of kids overall. Because there are a small number of kids on each track, the kids get to form lasting bonds with their classmates as well.
The homeschooling portion does take some work and dedication, but I've really enjoyed getting to take part in my daughter's education and have the ability to review or expand on concepts as needed. The teachers have always been great at communicating and making sure we are coordinating my daughter's education as well!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dale P.Escondido, CA262281Nov 14, 2018
First, a little background: As a child, I lived on a tiny tropical island. Paradise! However, my father was my principal, and my mother was my teacher. Paradise? Not so much! I have issues is what I'm saying.
Twenty years later I began homeschooling the first of eight children. None of them ever set foot in a traditional school.
Thirty years later a compromise needed to be struck for child number nine. Mom was 100% traditional mandatory government school. I was 100% 'over my dead body' on that plan. After a lot of research, I agreed to try Coastal Academy. Everything the previous parents said is right. When I asked my sweet, innocent, little kindergartener where her favorite place in the world was (SD Zoo? The Beach? Legoland?) her answer was "school."
It took me a minute to climb down from that idea, but she was right. She is safe, respected, and eager to learn. With only one exception every single thing about Coastal Academy is flat out beautiful. There, I said it.
That one exception? This is a five-star educational environment, and yet every single thing I have read from them has been shot full of spelling, punctuation, and grammar mistakes. Yes, I said 'and' not 'or.'
There are good reasons for any institution's websites, publications, and correspondence to be correct. For a school, it is mandatory.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Amanda W.Middletown, RI343Nov 12, 2021
Absolutely the best school our children have attended. The teachers and staff are fantastic. I'm so thankful we found a school which focuses on each student individually and has a rigorous program that can be customized so each child is succeeding.
