Event Description: Inspired by the mixed-media nautical sculptures of John Taylor on view in the OMA Lobby, kids will use a variety of materials to create, decorate, name and float their own boats at the next Free Family Art Day on Sunday, March 4 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Kids will be encouraged to learn more about the exhibition Ghost Fleet: John Taylor and will have the opportunity to use similar techniques involving reclaimed materials to transform common objects such as egg cartons, wood scraps and soda bottles into magical works of art. At Free Family Art Day, children and their parents work closely in the artistic process designing small works of art that reflect concepts and themes from the exhibitions on view. All art activities and exhibitions on view are free to the public. Projects are designed to engage children of all ages. No art experience is required for the art activities. Healthy refreshments and kid-centric docent tours will be provided.Free Family Art Day is made possible by Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego and The James Irvine Foundation.
