Event Description:
PLEASE NOTE THE DIFFERENT DATES AND TIMES FOR SHOWINGS! MiraCosta College’s International Languages and Film departments present these compelling films this spring: March 3, 6 p.m.: “How Strange to Be Named Federico” (Italy 2013) An exciting and visionary portrait of the master filmmaker Federico Fellini, based on the memories and the feelings of his great friend director Ettore Scola. Not rated. 93 min. April 20, 3 p.m.: “Francofonia” (France 2015) A history of the Louvre during the Nazi occupation and a meditation on the meaning and timelessness of art. Directed by Aleksandr Sokurovz. Not rated. 88 min. May 5, 6 p.m.: “Thao’s Library” (Vietnam 2015) Thao, a young Vietnamese woman among the Vietnam War’s uncounted casualties, and Elizabeth, a woman in New York struggling to cope after the sudden death of her famed younger sister, are brought together, forging an unlikely sisterhood, transcending language and culture. Together the women reflect on the past and they confront the present. And, they begin to heal. Directed by Elizabeth Van Meter. Not rated. 88 min. Each film will be shown in the MiraCosta College Little Theatre (Room 3601) at 1 Barnard Dr. in Oceanside. The films will be presented in the original languages with English subtitles. Admission is free.
