Event Description:
MiraCosta College presents an exhibit featuring the paintings of artists George Papciak and Cedra Wood entitled, “In Their Wake,” which opens March 14 and continues through April 13 in the college’s Kruglak Gallery. “In Their Wake” showcases the work of two painters who are interested in what is built, and what is left behind when people move through the world. George Papciak’s work consists of paintings he did while sailing and anchoring off small islands in California and Baja California. His theme is man’s alteration of the islands, what they bring and how they change the landscape to be able to survive on the islands. Cedra Wood’s paintings also focus on changing environments, whether she’s depicting the Arctic, continually altered by climate change; low-lying alkali lakes in the Oregon outback; or the volatile thermal features of Yellowstone. A reception for the artists will be held Thursday, March 16, 11 a.m.–3 p.m., and the artists will give talks that same day at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Admission to the gallery, reception and talks are free and open to the public. MiraCosta College’s Kruglak Art Gallery is located in the Oceanside Campus Student Center, Bldg. 3400, located at 1 Barnard Drive. The Kruglak Gallery offers a diverse range of contemporary exhibitions of interest to both students and the general public. Gallery hours are Mondays/Tuesdays, 2:30–7:30 p.m.; and Wednesdays/Thursdays/Fridays, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Gallery is closed March 20–24.
