Event Description:
“Meet the Artist” Daniel F. Martinez on Saturday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. Martinez will discuss the history and meaning behind his El Dias De Los Muertos collection and display images of his cultural public art projects. “Meet the Artist” is free with museum admission and complimentary for members of Oceanside Museum of Art as a benefit of membership. Mocking death is a way for Martinez to celebrate life in his installation Café con Muertos. The symbol of death is the calaveras (skeleton) that finds itself in manmade scenarios, such as drinking coffee. His paintings satirize the everyday realities of men and women. The paper-mâché marionettes in the exhibit are another example of Martinez’s creative diversity. As a child he loved to build and fabricate sculptures. The puppets playfully depict stories of religious traditions commenting on the moral traits of Christianity. General admission is $8, seniors 65 and over $5, students and active military free.
