Event Description: The City of Oceanside and MainStreet Oceanside are gearing up for their annual Independence Day Parade on Saturday, June 29 in downtown Oceanside. The parade will take place on Coast Highway from Wisconsin Avenue to Civic Center Drive. The event kicks off at 10:00a.m. and ends at 12p.m. “Oceanside, celebrating 125 years, past, present and future” is this year’s theme and the parade will feature more than 100 participating entries ranging from Military and School Marching Bands, Pageantry and Color Guard to local and regional businesses, scout, athletic, dance, veteran and faith based organizations. “This is a great display of true Americana in celebration of our Nation’s Birthday, states Cathy Nykiel, Parade Committee member for the parade. We also take this opportunity to salute those in the military that are serving our country.” Event entertainment highlights include four groups: 1st Marine Division Marching Band, El Camino Golden Pride Marching Band and Pageantry, Oceanside High School Pirate Marching Band and Color Guard and new this year, Fairmont Marching Band out of Minnesota. This year’s Grand Marshall is the Old Mission San Luis Rey. The Old Mission San Luis Rey celebrates its 250th birthday this year. They will be displaying a float replication this year again, a tradition that many have enjoyed. Father David Gaa and his Franciscan brothers, the Mission parishioners and volunteers as well as the Montesorri School will be part of their float and marching group. More than 75 volunteers come together to assist in a smooth operation. Attendees are encouraged to bring their beach chairs and sport red, white and blue attire to celebrate. Coast Hwy, Downtown: Parade starts at Wisconsin Avenue and proceeds North on Coast Hwy to Civic Center Drive, Downtown Oceanside.
