Event Description: Saturday, November 17 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. $40 for OMA members $50 nonmembers *Limited to 25 students *The class includes all materials. You are welcome to bring personal embellishments such as buttons, shells and small bits of your favorite fabrics, along with your favorite sewing tools. Learn how to hand stitch a small quilt during a half-day Hand-Stitched Connections Art Quilt Workshop with Jane LaFazio on Saturday, November 17 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cost for the workshop, including all materials, is $40 for OMA members and $50 for nonmembers. Call (760) 435-3721 to register for the class. The class is limited to 25 people. Students will be provided felt for backing, needle and embroidery thread, pins, fabric glue and scissors to share plus a wide variety of donated fabrics. This is a hand-sewing class, where you’ll learn a variety of basic embroidery stitches. Feel free to bring small embellishments such as buttons, shells and small bits of your favorite fabrics, along with your favorite sewing tools. This class is inspired by OMA’s two concurrent quilt exhibitions Quilt National and Fiber Dialogues on view October 13, 2012 to February 12, 2013. Instructor Jane LaFazio is a featured artist in Fiber Dialogues, an exhibit that expands on the conversation between artists working in the shared medium of quilting. Fiber Dialogues presents a group of Southern California artists interested in responding to works in the Quilt National exhibition on view at OMA. While Quilt National is an international juried exhibition, OMA wanted to stay true to its mission of presenting artwork and artists with a strong connection to California. By inviting a small group of artists to synthesize and interpret works in the Quilt National exhibition, they were able to find innate existing connections that provided an intriguing platform for the universal role of image-making through contemporary quilting.
