MiraCosta College Offers Community Education Enrichment Courses in Hobbies and Skills MiraCosta College Community Education is offering the following hobbies and skills, not-for-credit, courses this summer: NEW A, B, C, D's of Medicare. This class covers the essentials of the Medicare Health System, its structure, existing restrictions, cost and coverage details, as well as who can become a beneficiary. Other topics include: supplemental plans, Part C and drug plans, how they are structured, timelines, limitations and missing coverage areas. Fee: $39. Supplies: Please bring pen and paper to take notes. Location: San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Avenue, Cardiff, Room 306. 1 Saturday, 7/28, 10 AM–12 PM. From Good to Great Photos: Understanding Aperture and Shutter Speed. Even if you didn’t realize it, this is probably why you bought your dSLR in the first place! Aperture and shutter speed can be daunting concepts to understand on your own. Once you master these aspects of photography, it’s what is going to separate your pictures from the rest. We will also take a look at some of the pictures you took after your first session for constructive evaluation. After this class, you’ll be able to practice depth-of-field and capture motion and time. Fee: $45. Supplies: A $3 material fee will be collected in class. This two-day hands-on bootcamp will teach you the fundamentals of cooking. The techniques taught by Food Network Champ Chef Patsy Bentivegna are geared towards those looking to build a strong cooking-skills foundation. Students will acquire valuable tips and culinary insight from a professional chef. Day One: knife skills, stocks, soups, vinaigrette, and grilling. Day Two: intro to spices and herbs, poaching, roasting, sautéing and dessert. Fee: $125. Early Bird Special $100 (Register BEFORE 8/2 for this rate). Making Shooting Perfect Pictures Easy. The primary strategy for achieving great pictures is proper lighting, no matter what kind of camera you have. To make getting that perfect shot easy, we will cover lens focal length, exposure compensation, bracketing, auto-focus points and flash.
