MiraCosta College Offers Community Education Enrichment Courses for Children and Teens MiraCosta College Community Education is offering the following children and teens, not-for-credit, courses this summer: College For Kids and Youth Academy. For ages 6-17, July 2–August 3. Check out some of our most popular classes. NEW Alice in Wonderland—Down the Rabbit Hole. 6–8 YEARS. Don’t be late for this very important date! Join the Mad Hatter at his tea party as we fall down the rabbit hole into a world where up is down and down is up! This is sure to be “curiouser and curiouser” as students play croquet with the Queen, visit with the Cheshire Cat, paint the roses red and learn to dance with Tweeledum and Teedledee. A fun frolic into a land filled with magic, science, food and fantasy. Fee: $100. Material fee: $20. NEW Superhero Camp. 6–8 YEARS. Nothing beats superheroes! Join your fellow young heroes for a week of games, creativity and training. Students will create their own superhero identities, or take on one from their favorite comics and movies. Create original stories, design cool costumes, compete against other supers in friendly competition and learn what it takes to be a real world hero. Fee: $110. Material fee: $15. Totally Irresponsible and Potentially Catastrophic Science. 9–12 YEARS. Rock some cool experiments that will get budding young scientists excited about science. This class is full of hands-on experiments that offer young minds the opportunity to participate in the magical appeal of physics and chemistry! Everything from homemade lightning to marshmallows on steroids, these fun activities will awaken curiosity while demonstrating many different scientific principles. So throw yourself into these funny, eye-opening, quirky experiments and see where they take you. Please note that students may get dirty. Please dress them accordingly. Fee: $110. Material fee: $25. Virtual Reality Future is Now. YOUTH ACADEMY 11–14 YEARS. Embark on an EPIC adventure in virtual reality! In this cutting-edge class, you will learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week, take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students do not need a mobile device to take the class, but to use the VR headset students will need access to an Android or Apple mobile device. Students will work in pairs or teams and VR projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family.
