MiraCosta College Offers Community Education Enrichment Courses in Hobbies and Skills MiraCosta College Community Education is offering the following hobbies and skills, not-for-credit, courses this summer: Therapeutic Massage for Couples—Health and Wellness. After a long, stressful day at work or a strenuous athletic event, there is no better feeling than receiving a nourishing, therapeutic massage by your partner or loved one in your own home. Taught by a professional massage therapist with over 20 years of experience, Therapeutic Massage for Couples teaches a professional, quick 10, 15 or 20-minute quality massage session designed to reduce stress and some common ailments, such as headaches, low back issues or tired achy feet. You can stay in your comfortable clothing and there is no expensive equipment required. Fee: $89 per couple. Early Bird Special $79 per couple (Register BEFORE 6/16 for this rate.) Supplies: A $15 material fee will be collected in class for handouts and massage lotion. Please bring note paper, a small hand towel, one or two yoga mats, two pillows and wear loose, comfortable clothing. Location: San Elijo Campus, Room 204. Time: 1 Saturday, 6/23, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. NEW School Emergency Preparedness for Parents and Children. Ready! Set! Safe! This hands-on, skills-based practical workshop is designed to introduce, parents and children to preparing and recognizing school emergencies. Knowing basic skills to improve personal safety will go a long way to keeping you and your children out of harm’s way. Parents—Survival Mindset: Information, Knowledge and Skills. Children—Ready Set Safe and Family Plan. Active Shooter Awareness Guidelines—Run Hide Fight. Earthquake—Drop, Cover, Hold On. Fire—Ready Set Go! Note: Minimum age for children is 13 years old. Fee: $55. Supplies: A $20 material fee will be collected in class for handouts and course materials. Location: San Elijo Campus, Room 302. Time: 2 sessions. Friday, 6/22, 6–8 p.m. (parents only) and Saturday, 6/23, 9–11 a.m. (parents and children.) Spanish 1A—for Mature Adults. This is a beginning Spanish class. This course is designed for those with little to no knowledge of Spanish. It is also a great start for those wanting to learn basic Spanish for traveling or refresh what you learned. Class will include grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and culture, as well as reading, writing, and conversation. Fee: $129. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn about horses, grooming, horsemanship and to begin riding in a safe and beautiful environment. Horseback riding helps build confidence and responsibility, soothes and releases stress, provides exercise and develops a strong bond between you and horses. All levels welcome, including the experienced rider who wants to get back in the saddle. Note: Students must weigh under 200 lbs. Fee: $210. Supplies: Bring water and sunscreen. Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes that can get dirty. All students will have to sign a waiver. Students between the ages of 15–17 must be accompanied by an adult and will need to have a parent or guardian sign a waiver. Location: Hoof Haven Farms, 4777 S. Mission Road, Fallbrook.
