Seeking New Live Well Center in Oceanside! Influenced by the Live Well Vision of building better health, living safely and thriving, the County of San Diego is looking to Oceanside as their next location for a new state-of-the-art Live Well Center! Based on the success of the Live Well Center in Escondido, it is known that these state of the art facilities offer the community all the capabilities of the County’s Health and Human Services (HHSA) Department under one roof. The Live Well Center will provide four core HHSA programs which include: Family Services, Child Welfare Services, Aging & Independent Services, and a Public Health Center. Additionally, they plan to consolidate their older Oceanside office locations (that are outdated and at capacity) into this new modernized facility modeled after the County’s Live Well Centers in Escondido and National City. Oceanside is home to over 57,000 people who access the County’s services on any given day throughout the year. Approximately 32,200 of whom are working individuals or families, including 21,981 children and 4,383 senior citizens. These people are your neighbors, your employees, and your community volunteers. “I couldn’t be happier about the possibility of opening a second Live Well Center in North County,” said San Diego County Supervisor Bill Horn. “The Live Well Center in Escondido has been such an incredible community asset and hopefully Oceanside will enjoy the convenience of essential County services in their neighborhood and under one roof.” A Live Well Center in Oceanside will focus on families and be an asset to the surrounding residents in the community who need these resources most. It has been said this center may attract Oceanside’s homeless population and be a drain on the community. The County has not seen that as an issue in any of their other sites and they do not believe it will be an issue in Oceanside. As a family focused center, there will be no homeless feeding or housing programs provided at this location. At alternate sites in Escondido and National City, the surrounding businesses like Starbucks and Farmer Boys Restaurant have had to hire new employees due to the influx of customers generated by the proximity to the Live Well Center. There is a great opportunity to have a Live Well Center in the City of Oceanside. The County’s goal is to enhance access to services and make a positive contribution to the economic health of the region through quality employment and state of the art facilities. Please do not hesitate to contact the County if you have any questions or feedback for them. http://www.livewellsd.org
