MiraCosta College Offers Community Education Courses in Arts and Music MiraCosta College’s Community Education is offering the following arts and music, not-for-credit, courses this spring: Sewing for High Fashion Clothing Design: All levels are welcome. Learn how to make garments with style, proper fit and a high fashion look! Choose the correct size based on body frame shape and measurements. Learn high quality clothing construction techniques in a class filled with talented people. Let your imagination soar and delight yourself while making garments you always wanted. Fee: $110. Supplies: Sewing machines are not required. Bring a sack lunch. A materials list will be sent prior to the start of class. Location: Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive, Room OC4526. Time: 4 Saturdays, 4/14–5/5, 9:30 AM–2:30 PM. Paint Outdoors with Watercolor: Discover the fun and challenge of sketching and painting outdoors with watercolor. In this introductory course, you will learn how to capture your impressions of time and place as we paint in the outdoor setting of MiraCosta’s San Elijo campus, as well as a scenic spot off campus (location to be determined and transportation not included). Fee: $110. Supplies: A materials list will be sent prior to the start of class. Location: San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Ave., Cardiff, Room SAN206. Time: 4 Saturdays, 4/28–5/19, 1 PM–4:30 PM. Beginning Guitar: No experience necessary. If you know a minimal amount about the guitar, this is the class for you. This class covers guitar techniques, chords, strumming and some notation/theory. By the end of this class, you will have an understanding of chord structure and beginning strumming techniques! Most of the songs learned will be by The Beatles. No book required. Instructor will provide handouts. Fee: $89. Supplies: A $3 material fee will be collected in class. Bring guitar, notebook and pen to class. Night Photography: Learn to Capture Amazing Images in the Dark: Want to capture night sky splendor with your digital SLR camera? The vibrancy of color can be found in capturing the stars, a city skyline at twilight, or even urban settings at night. Join photographer Lamia Khorshid and learn the technique and art of photographing after dark. Fundamentals of night photography are covered in the computer lab on night one. On night two, we shoot outside of class (weather permitting). Then on night three and four, we will meet at a selected location to put what we have learned into action. Fee: $120. Location: San Elijo Campus, 3333 Manchester Ave., Cardiff, Room SAN306. Time: 4 Mondays, 4/9–4/30, 7:30 PM–9:30 PM. Getting Started with Your dSLR: In this workshop, you will learn how to set up your camera to optimize the quality of your photographs. We will cover the all important topics of white balance and ISO to be able to shoot under difficult conditions. Additionally, we will learn about the little icons on your shooting dial. After you have completed this class, you’ll be able to take pictures right away! Fee: $45. Supplies: A $3 material fee will be collected in class. Please bring your camera and manual to class.
