MiraCosta College Offers Community Education Courses In Arts and Music MiraCosta College’s Community Education is offering the following arts and music, not-for-credit, courses this spring: Stained Glass for Beginners: Create your own beautiful stained glass art pieces and windows! Learn the art of stained glass from a master cutter, right in a stained glass studio. In this comprehensive workshop, you will learn the basics of design and assembly, as well as the use of the tools needed to develop beautiful stained glass artwork. By the end of the workshop, you will have created as many as three projects suitable for display or sale (depending on your speed and ability). Fee: $104; Supplies: A $40 per-project material fee for glass, solder, lead and copper will be collected in class. On-site sales of tools available. Bring snacks. Location: Don Myers Stained Glass, 1025 S. Coast Highway, Oceanside. Time: 3 Saturdays, 3/10–3/24, 11 AM–2 PM. Personal Mosaic Totems: Back by popular demand! Create your own personal totem post! We will study contemporary mosaic pillar and historic totem pole images for a sculptural piece suitable for indoors or outdoors in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. More advanced students may choose to do their own project with individual guidance from instructor. Fee: $129. Supplies: A $50 material fee will be collected in class. Draping, Drafting and Fitting for Garments Design: The art of fashion draping is the manipulation of fabric on a three dimensional form to obtain perfect fit and harmony between the fabric, design of the garment and the silhouette of the model. It allows for more inspiration as you learn the draping method and see the proportion, balance and style lines of a design emerge. Fee: $110. Supplies: Sewing machines are not required. How to Draw Portraits That SELL: NEW Whether you are an absolute beginner or seasoned artist, this class will teach you secret tips and techniques to draw portraits that sell. Have fun learning basic portrait anatomy and expressions, how to photograph your model and the business of portrait selling from a pro who has painted over 3,000 portraits. Create your own works of art as we explore a selection of works such as centuries-old frescoes, Impressionist art and popular artists from Klimt to Warhol. Fee: $110. Learn a logical, elemental approach to artfully depict representational subjects in watercolor, while developing control of shape, color, value and texture in a watercolor medium. Fee: $154. Beginning Blues Harmonica: This class will get you quickly “jammin da blues” as you learn the many techniques to make the harmonica cry, moan, and wail the blues! Through this fun, one-night workshop, you will learn proper breathing techniques, blues harmonica rhythms, improvisational techniques, and how to effectively solo and practice. From Good to Great Photos: Understanding Aperture and Shutter Speed: Even if you didn’t realize it, this is probably why you bought your dSLR in the first place! Aperture and shutter speed can be daunting concepts to understand on your own. Once you master these aspects of photography, it’s what is going to separate your pictures from the rest. We will also take a look at some of the pictures you took after your first session for constructive evaluation. After this class, you’ll be able to practice depth-of-field and capture motion and time. Fee: $45; Supplies: A $3 material fee will be collected in class.
