Early application deadline for fall 2018 entry into the program is November 17, 2017. Accepting its inaugural class in fall 2017, MiraCosta College is one of only 15 California community colleges authorized to offer a bachelor's degree program. The program prepares students for careers in the biotechnology industry. The program emphasizes biological production where science is partnered with quality and compliance. Existing biotechnology degree programs in California focus on product understanding during the research and early development stages. MiraCosta College’s biomanufacturing degree program will emphasize the process understanding required of later stages of biotech development and production. Courses cost $46 a unit for lower division classes and an additional $84 a unit for upper division classes. The four-year program is expected to cost students about $10,000, not including books, materials and fees for health services, parking and the student center. Interested students should complete all prerequisite coursework by the end of the spring semester 2018 and are encouraged to apply now. Space in this program is limited and the upper division program is restricted to 30 students.
