Harbor Days Back this Weekend in Oceanside Oceanside is putting on its annual nautical celebration this weekend with entertainment, an art fest and contests that are expected to draw thousands to the Oceanside Harbor. Oceanside Harbor Days, which goes back four decades and is billed as one of the city’s longest running festivals, features more than 200 arts and craft exhibits, a pirates village with costumed pirates and mermaids, children’s activities and food court along with beer garden sponsored by the Vista-based Prohibition Brewing Co. Highlights include several contests ranging from the Tiki Swim Marathon early in the morning and children’s fishing derby to the "Nail and Sail" competition sponsored by the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians, where competitors are timed as they build a boat from scratch, using only hand tools and then race the boat across the harbor. The Oceanside Police Department and Fire Department will display vehicles and the OPD Canine Unit will give demonstrations. The Oceanside Fire Fighters Association will hold its annual pancake breakfast in the mornings. Pirates Village will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days with free activities for children, such as a treasure hunt, pirate tattoos, crafts and costume contest at noon for ages 10 and younger. The fishing derby for ages 2-12 is from 8:30 to noon Saturday. Free double-decker shuttle buses will pick up attendees from stops at the Oceanside Harbor and the downtown Oceanside Transit Center at Cleveland Street and Seagaze Drive, where there is free parking. Harbor Days, presented by Genentech and Tri-City Medical Center and run by the Oceanside Chamber is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
