2017 U.S. PIZZA TEAM WEST COAST PIZZA TRIALS The winner of this competition wins a trip to Italy and an opportunity to compete in the 2018 World Pizza Championships Oceanside, CA, June 19, 2017– For the 1st time on the west coast, Dominic’s Italian Restaurant will host the 2017 U.S. Pizza Team’s West Coast Pizza Trials. The beautiful Oceanside Harbor will be the backdrop for this competition, and is open to the first 20 pizza chefs to register. The competition will take place on August 8, 2017, from 10am to 4pm. Master pizzaiolos from all over the United States will be attending for a chance to win the grand prize of a trip to compete in the 2018 World Pizza Championships in Parma, Italy (worldpizzachampionship.com). Brothers Tore and Faro Trupiano, who had very strong finishes at the International Pizza Challenge in Las Vegas this March, where Tore placed 5th in the world in the pan competition, and Faro placed 3rd regionally in traditional, have been working for the last year to bring this local event to life. Tore, who is a member of the United States Pizza Team, spent the last year hyping the North San Diego Dominic’s location for the event, and interest grew quickly! Tore Trupiano also recently returned from an event in Fontana, CA, where on June 10, 2017, he and several other U.S. Pizza Team members were part of a team of professional pizza chefs from around the U.S. that broke the Guinness World Record for the longest pizza in the world. Over 6333 feet long. Expect to see master pizzaiolos, hailing from California to New York, to flock to Oceanside Harbor Village to compete in the 2017 West Coast Pizza Trials. Proprietor Damiano Trupianio remarks, “I can’t believe we are hosting such an incredible event!” During the competition, a select number of tickets will be sold for a wine/beer pairing and a sample of each of the competing chefs’ pizzas. Judging will come from a celebrity panel of judges and culinary professionals. After the winners are announced, all contestants will show off their talents in an iron chef style competition. Chefs will create a pizza with ingredients of their choice, plus a secret ingredient decided by Dominic’s Italian Restaurant. Only 150 tickets for this event are available, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
