Frazier Farms and Charlie’s Produce Donates 4,792 pounds of Fresh Apples to Brother Benno’s San Diego, Calif., June 8, 2017 – Frazier Farms and Charlie’s Produce will make a donation of 4,792 pounds of fresh apples to Brother Benno’s to help feed the hungry in the local community on Friday, June 16. This donation signals the participation of Frazier Farms and Charlie’s Produce in the Take a Bite Out of HungerTM Program sponsored by FirstFruits Marketing of Washington. FirstFruits Marketing of Washington created the Take a Bite out of Hunger campaign to help feed the underserved while bringing attention to the problem of food insecurity in the United States and Canada. This is Frazier Farm’s first year and Charlie’s third year participating in the campaign. “We’re proud to give back to our community and participating in Take a Bite Out of Hunger is a great way to make a difference,” said Nick Frazier, store owner of Frazier Farms. “This donation of 4,792 pounds of apples ensures that the shelves at Brother Benno’s are stocked with fresh produce.” Hunger isn’t just about being hungry. It’s about food insecurity, or not having regular access to safe, affordable and nutritious foods. As of 2015, nearly 13 percent of all U.S. households were food-insecure according to the USDA. Of those, households with children reported food insecurity at a higher rate than those without children: 17 percent compared to 11 percent. “We love working with retailers and wholesalers like Frazier Farms and Charlie’s Produce who are committed to serving their local communities,” said Tim Corkill, regional marketing manager of FirstFruits Marketing of Washington. “Together, we’re not only making a donation, but we’re making a difference while raising awareness of food insecurity in the United States and Canada.” Over 1.6 million pounds of fresh apples have been donated to local food banks since the program’s inception in 2010. Last year alone, over 350,000 pounds of fresh apples were donated in participatingretailers’ names to local food banks in their communities. The apples will be delivered to Brother Benno’s at 3260 Production Avenue Oceanside, CA 92058 at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 16. All media is invited to attend the donation event. About FirstFruits Marketing of Washington FirstFruits Marketing is a collaborative apple marketing company owned by Ralph and Cheryl Broetje. Their growers share a commitment to producing high quality fruit while balancing the demands of purpose, people, planet and profit so that a portion of profits can be donated to non-profit missions supporting the underserved.
