Approximately 59 graduates of MiraCosta College’s citizenship course successfully obtained U.S. citizenship in 2016 and will be honored during a special ceremony on Saturday, April 15. The event will be held 10 a.m.–noon at the MiraCosta College Community Learning Center, 1831 Mission Ave. in Oceanside. Keynote speaker will be Humberto Gurmilan from the Gurmilan Foundation. This year’s students came to MiraCosta College from China, Jamaica, Taiwan, Iran, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico and the Philippines. MiraCosta College’s citizenship instruction is offered at the Community Learning Center in Oceanside. The program offers students a flexible schedule and personalized instruction in order to prepare them for the naturalization process. Upon completion of the program, students receive a certificate of achievement. Representatives from the Oceanside City Council, the City of Encinitas and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services will attend the ceremony, along with several MiraCosta College officials, including MiraCosta College Superintendent/President Dr. Sunny Cooke and the college’s Board of Trustees.
