San Marcos, Calif. — November 16 – California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) was presented with the Older Adult Model Program Award from the Association for Continuing Higher Education, Inc. (ACHE) on November 11, 2015 for providing outstanding learning opportunities and service to an older population. ACHE was established in 1973 to stimulate, encourage and reward outstanding contributions in the advancement of higher education. The award was presented during the 77th Annual Conference and Meeting in Denver, CO.
“The CSUSM Osher Lifelong Learning Institute staff are passionate about providing dynamic educational opportunities for community members who are over the age of 50 and that is what this award is about,” said Mike Schroder, Dean of Extended Learning and Associate Vice President of Global Programs and Services at CSUSM. “We want to provide area residents with an opportunity to learn new things, challenge ideas and renew their enthusiasm for knowledge.”
OLLI provides a wide array of educational programming taught by professors and experts in their fields. Topics such as art appreciation, health, sustainable living and science and technology offer intellectual and cultural exploration opportunities and social engagement, ultimately enhancing adult learners’ quality of life.
“Although the ultimate goal is to provide educational opportunities for our 50 and over community, we know that our students also benefit from the friendships and networking that are cultivated during the program,” said Dean Schroder.
OLLI courses are offered throughout North San Diego County and Temecula in five or ten week sessions in addition to one-day lectures.
