San Luis Rey Bakery & Restaurant

This place is insane! I didnt know great bakeries like this existed south of LA. A variety of unique and delicious pastries! Great huevos rancheros!

Came by to order a birthday cake. I'll review that experience once we get the cake. Ordering was easy and they worked with what I was requesting. I needed a small birthday cake with a paw patrol image. I don't pick it up for a few days but will update review.

We did get some cookies and pastries. So far everything has tasted great. Didn't try the restaurant.

Mission San Luis Rey Bakery, and Restaurant, Oceanside, CA - November 22, 2023

We came here for lunch on Wednesday afternoon after visiting the mission. The first thing you see as you walk in is the bakery counter, which looked really good. We were a party of six, and they needed to set up a table for us when we got there. The ambulance is nothing special in the dining room. Basic chairs and tables.

They got us water and menus right away and then brought over two amazingly TINY baskets of chips. I think there were about eight chips in each basket, if that. I had a bad first impression of that and asked for some more chips. They brought one more tiny basket of chips. I was thinking wow, if this is any indication of how good this place is, we're in trouble.

Boy, was I wrong. Our group ordered the Carne Asada Quesadilla, a Carnitas burrito, and a crispy Carnitas taco. The quesadillas came with guacamole. The food was incredibly well seasoned and delicious. They did bring us three more baskets of chips when I asked them.

After lunch, we headed over to the bakery to buy some cookies. Although the cookies look delicious, they were dry and weren't the best I've ever had.

One star for the skimpy amount chips, eight stars for the delicious food, and three stars for the cookies.

I was recommended this place from a colleague at work and it could not have turned out any better. I walked in for an early dinner around 4:30 PM and was greeted promptly by one of the staff. Being so early in the day there were only three or four other couples in the restaurant. The quiet atmosphere, and the music was perfect. As soon as you walk in there is a festive environment with many treats on display in the bakery section. My meal, Chile relleno, was exquisite. I don't frequently have the opportunity to eat traditional Mexican food, but this place brought my desire to perfection! Thank you once again for bringing me a wonderful evening of culinary excellance. highly recommended!

First time here w hubby and let me just say, I have been missing out.

Chilaquiles verdes are the best I've had in the US. Finally a place that gets it right! We've gotten them multiple times here. Always yummy.
Hubby got omelet veggie I think. It was tasty!

I'm not a fan of the desserts BUT I'm not big on bakery items so for this I'll share my kids' reviews since they are the experts in this field... super yummy! They wanted more lol but this was more than enough, bakery items are HUGE!

Wonderful pastries with a great selection and awesome staff! It smells amazing when you walk in and so many goodies remind me of my childhood.

Great pan Dulce at a very good price. The only drawback is that parking can be at a minimum depending on the time of day as it's on a corner of a turn, but, you'll be fine most days. The interior is not modern but you'll feel right at home, especially if you don't want something super bougie. Paying is super easy, and the assortment is always looking fresh.

I was there the first week of the opening of this restaurant. I enjoyed the food and it is what was needed in this community. The food is great and the service is good. This restaurant continues to show that the food is consistently delicious.

Authentic Mexican cuisine! Delicious menu with custom bakery to choose from, with pastries to cookies! Just a short walk from San Luis Rey Mission! Service with a smile but can be busy at certain times! Inside and outside seating available! Enjoy your meals for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Or order it to go! But eating there is better if you have the time...nice and clean inside with Mexican decorations to enjoy! Plus Clean restrooms are always best!
