      1 check-in

I have lived in Oceanside for a while but have never tried Hello Betty.

I have heard that they used to have an awesome view up on top of the building before the hotel was built across the street blocking the view.

Parking is available across the street in a paid lot, if you can get some limited time free parking near the transit center if you are lucky.

I met a friend for dinner on a Wednesday night, so it was not too crowded.

Two things that I noticed when I walked in were the dune buggy to the left of the check in stand, and all of the TVs playing sports.

The Menu seems to be small compared with other restaurants. There was a variety of appetizers to choose from but we decided to skip those.

The menu has salads, fish, burgers, chicken, steak, tacos, etc.

Others in my party went with the dish and chips and the chicken sandwich.

I decided to try the brisket tacos, with rice and charro beans (not the black beans). It was good.
The rice was ok, the beans were ok but I should have went for the black beans. The tacos were tasty and packed full of yummy ingredients, they were flavorful and even though small, they were filling. I think it was $17 for 2 tacos, rice, and beans.

I had a bite of the chicken sandwich and it was pretty good. It was my 2nd choice and I should have went with that instead. Maybe next time.

We also shared the Mexican brownie sundae dessert. It was pretty good, decent size, delicious and it was enough for 3 people.

We went up to the roof to check out the view, it was ok and the light rain added to the ambiance. It must have been a great idea before the hotels were built up Across the street.

Went here for lunch with visitors from out of state thinking it would be a great meal for them.

I ordered a medium cooked cheeseburger, came out pink as hell. The bun was soggy, the meat was unseasoned, and very oily. I had two bites and just started drinking.

My fiancé ordered the Caesar salad with cooked salmon. Salmon was raw in the middle and nasty. They took it out from our bill but only took out the salmon part haha.

Totally a waste of money coming to this restaurant. Nice location but the food was terrible. Our server was great though.

Disappointing food. Great view at the bar as it is open and can see a bit of the ocean. The food though . . . So bland and without any inspiration. Just a burger, salad and Mexican corn The burger was a burger. The salad and Mexican corn did not really meet expectation for the price. Anyone can throw lettuce together and put corn and tortilla chips on top. Had Paloma drinks- expensive for the small servings. Wait staff missing off the floor. They were likely in the back chatting.

      Pass on this one!!!

This place is just a couple of streets away from the beach.. right on the corner. We walked in. There was no one there to see us. We ended up seating ourselves.
The service is OK the food is OK .
I can't honestly say anything special about this place it was pouring down rain and it was a good place to sit inside. The tacos were good and the tuna melt on sourdough with avocado instead of cheese, was OK.
One thing I think they should definitely change is the Caesar salad with the chicken on top was served in a tiny bowl, so there was no room to move your food around in the bowl or it would spill out over the edge onto the table . That was inconvenient.( if you order this, I would ask for a separate dish on the side.)

The location is great. About one block away from the pier/beach. Dropped in for Happy Hour (March Madness was in full swing). This place has indoor/outdoor seating. TVs around the bar. Ample amount of seating. If you're seated at the bar (right side) or outside. You will great views of the ocean. Our server was really attentive. However, I order the following: chips and salsa, MAHI (need more fish) and Shrimp tacos (two of the same happy hour price), Elote Mexican Street Corn, drinks: O' SIDE RITA and La Paloma.

The tacos were fresh and delicious. The street corn was on point. First round of drinks tasted good. The second round didn't taste like an adult beverage. I was charged for the non-Happy Hour price for the salsa and chips and the tacos. The bill was adjusted by $4. It should've been more. By this time, I was ready to leave. I didn't want to deal with the inconvenience.

Food is trash, drinks taste like the end of the drink, watered down and disgusting. I think my drinks may have had a 1/2 shot each. The best thing I had was the charro beans. Save yourself and don't get the black beans, they taste like dirt. The tacos are buy 2 but must get the same kind, cannot mix and match. We found a workaround by getting my son to shrimp tacos and myself to mahi tacos and then traded. The mahi was so dry and tasteless. It was supposed to be blackened, but none of the seasoning got to the fish. Also, who serves mahi tacos with green bell pepper?! We come to Oside for vacay and I will not be back here. Server was nice enough.

We came here for food and ended up getting dessert! The ambience is really fun and nice. The location is great and very convenient especially if you were staying at the attached hotel. The service was mediocre and it felt like they were either very short staffed or the servers were absent-minded. It is hard to tell as the place was not busy at all when we were there. The desserts are incredible, and very tasty! We had the Mexican brownies sundae, the cheesecake, and the chocolate tart, which is flourless!if you were looking for a dessert and a fun place to end the evening, this is a great place to go.

Delicious Mexican Brownie Sunday. Cinnamon ice cream with pepitas, almonds, chocolate sauce. All on a warm chocolate brownie! Yum!

We hosted a farewell brunch the morning after our wedding on 3/31/24 and Hello Betty helped make everything so perfect! I originally contacted Meeche to inquire about the event and she made planning everything so stress-free. Meeche was able to help us create an event that was within our budget for about 80 people. Everyone really enjoyed the breakfast taco buffet. We also wanted to offer mimosas and bloody marys at our event. Hello Betty set up a little bar by our breakfast buffet to make it easy for our guests to grab a drink. The service was fantastic and everyone was so helpful. We had a phenomenal time and highly recommend Hello Betty for events! Thanks for everything, Meeche and the Hello Betty staff!

Before heading down to Oceanside for my buddy's wedding, I made sure to do my homework on where to eat. Not that I wouldn't normally do it anyways, but it felt especially pertinent in this case since I was only going to have time to check out one place during my trip. After doing a bit of research, it didn't take me long to settle on Hello Betty - the photos of their food looked great and their 2,400+ reviews obviously were a good sign (not that review count is the end all be all). Of course, it also didn't hurt that they just so happened to be right by where my friends and I were staying too...ha!

Beyond just their uber convenient location (only a few short blocks from the beach/pier), there's a lot to Hello Betty that makes them so popular. The vibe is semi-trendy yet casual, there's a huge bar with a bunch of TV's, and their rooftop lounge is perfect for day drinking/happy hour with friends (they have a terrific array of beers, margaritas, and beach cocktails too!). Most importantly, the food menu is full of appealing options as well. While it may not appear very extensive at a glance, there's a lot to choose from, whether it be their starters, salads, burgers, sandwiches, entrees, or their dozen or so varieties of tacos. However, despite how said tacos seemed like the thing to get, I couldn't resist the craving I'd been having for some FISH & CHIPS ($18.50).

Even though I started to second guess myself almost immediately after ordering (I debated on flagging our server to add on a taco), I felt better as soon as my dish came out. Initially, I was a little disappointed to see only two pieces of fish, but I was pretty happy with how they looked. Sadly, though, the taste of them fell a little short. While the fish itself was great (moist and flakey, in a good way), the batter was more soft than crispy. As for the fries, they were solid - crispier than the fish, but the portion felt a little light.

As far as service goes, we didn't run into any issues, but I can see why others have had uneven experiences. We came in the middle of the afternoon, so we didn't have any issues with a wait or the restaurant being crowded, but one of the hosts seemed disinterested in helping us. Our interactions with our server were also a little more transactional than friendly, though she was perfectly fine otherwise, so it's really more of an observation than a complaint.

One other thing that's pretty cool about Hello Betty is that they have theme nights throughout the week that offers something different, such as Taco Tuesdays, wine nights, and live music. Still, as much fun as those sound, I'm not sure that I would make a point of coming back the next time I'm out here, given how I literally have the rest of Oceanside to discover. Not that I would be opposed to a return if someone suggest it, especially since I'm still rather curious about their tacos!

THREE AND A HALF STARS would be perfect, but, after a lot of waffling back and forth, I'm rounding down for now.
